Diners at the Perfect Pear Bistro in Tempe

Perfect Pear Bistro Earns the Detour

Some lunch spots are worth going out of your way for, and Perfect Pear Bistro is one of them. The kitchen keeps things simple and does it well. This is exactly the kind of place that rewards a weekday visit when you can take your time. If you have not tried the grilled cheese yet, that changes today.

What to Expect

Perfect Pear Bistro is a casual, low-key lunch destination that earns repeat visits on the strength of its food. The menu focuses on the kind of approachable dishes that actually deliver – nothing fussy, nothing overreached. The grilled cheese is the standout and the one thing most regulars will tell you to order first.

My Dad devoured his Cuban sandwich and asked for refills of his Arnold Palmer made with black tea and blackberry lemonade (he orders like a celebrity from time to time, but his custom Arnold Palmer was delicious). The Perfect Pear had a variety of lemonade flavors, so I’ll be trying those on my next visit.

I peared (see what I did there?) my grilled cheese with sweet potato fries, while Dad had regular fries. We both gave our fries a 10 out of 10. My fries were sweetened and cooked just right, while Dad’s fries were thin and crispy, served hot – just the way he likes them.

When to Go

We had lunch at their North Tempe location, 603 W University Dr, Tempe, AZ. We arrived during the peak rush and had to wait about 20 minutes for a table. By 1:30 walk-ins were seated immediately and the noise dropped considerably. I recommend Perfect Pear for a late afternoon lunch visit. You will avoid the peak rush, get your pick of seating, and have time to linger without feeling crowded. Midday on a quiet Tuesday or Wednesday is about as pleasant as a lunch stop gets.

A Note on Details

Free parking is available in the restaurant’s lots. If mobility is a consideration, it is worth a quick call to ask about seating accessibility before you arrive.

Dine in air-conditioned comfort, or enjoy the covered patio. There is a full bar inside, serving craft brews

If You Do One Thing

Order the grilled cheese.

It is the dish regulars come back for and the one item that makes Perfect Pear Bistro worth the trip. Simple, well-executed, and exactly what a good lunch should be. Works for any appetite or dietary preference that includes cheese.
